Singer asked people not to be ashamed to talk about mental health
Singer Mel C, one of the members of the Spice Girls, opened the game about the struggle she fought against depression and stress and the importance of looking for help in situations like this.
Mel C was diagnosed with depression more than 20 years ago, during the height of the pop group. In an interview with The Graham Norton Radio, the star revealed that she was “ashamed” to talk about the disease at the time of diagnosis. “I kept this secret and I think the people around you are very connected to it, but they don’t know how to approach you,” said the singer.
For her, talking about depression is an important step. “Usually you need this outside help, you need to be ready. But you need help and, personally for me, I needed professional help”.
The singer also pointed out that she believes that people need to stop treating mental health as a sign of weakness. “I also suffered from an eating disorder and I think people feel ashamed about it like it’s a weakness and they’ve lost control. We all have problems and concerns. People need people.”
