1 Assembly may see new Speaker as Sawant in line for Power Portfolio in place of ailing Madkaikar
2 Cabral to come on centrestage to hold with Francis D Souza’s departments
3 Michael Lobo may miss the bus again, may quit Dy Speakers post in protest
Panjim: The political drama will not end though the twelve day long monsoon session of Goa Legislative Assembly will culminate today, August 3. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is expected to replace two of his ailing ministers with young faces, and in the bargain, the assembly will get a new Speaker.
BJP sources confirmed that Speaker Dr Pramod Sawant and Nilesh Cabral would be inducted in the cabinet in place of Francis D’Souza and Pandurang Madkaikar, both of whom are ailing. Madkaikar has been far more serious and is not expected to return to active politics, for some months at least now.
Sawant is likely to be inducted and given Power portfolio while the departments of D’Souza would be given to Cabral.
If that happens, both would be the minister for first time.
Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar is expected to be the new Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.
It is not clear when exactly Parrikar would have new inductions but it is likely that he would do it before he leaves on a short vacation to the USA for his follow up treatment during mid-August.
The entire arrangement is going to upset Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who was expecting a cabinet berth. Incidently, Parrikar during election rally of Lobo at Parra had assured that he would be inducted in the next cabinet.
It is to be seen what would be the stand of Lobo. The people close to Lobo has predicted that Calangute MLA might even resign as Deputy Speaker and remain as normal legislator, if he is not inducted in the cabinet.
