During my 14 years at Housemarque, I have been incredibly lucky to work on one dream project after another and have had the privilege of working alongside some truly talented and wonderful people along the way. It has been an honor to accompany Housemarque on this journey, witnessing our growth from our smaller arcade-inspired titles to the magnificent heights we have reached with Returnal. We truly shook the pillars of heaven together, and I will always be proud of all the incredible things we accomplished as a studio. Leaving Housemarque was a very difficult decision for me, but I am leaving the company with nothing but deep gratitude for the past and bright optimism for the future – with an exciting new project underway, a fantastic team that is stronger than ever before. ever, and with the continued support of Sony and Playstation Studios, I know that Housemarque’s brightest chapter has yet to be written.
Commenting on Harry‘s announcement, Ilari Kuittinen, co-founder of Housemarque, took a moment to reflect on the impact of Krueger’s leadership.
Over the course of Harry’s tenure, we have seen the “death of Arcade” and also achieved growth milestones we only dreamed of. Harry’s passion and drive have been vital in carving our studio’s trajectory to its current scale. The rebirth of “Arcade”, defined by Returnal, speaks volumes about its impact and vision, and is a great point for future leaders to take over and continue to improve.
Returnal tells the story of Selene, a space explorer who, after crash-landing on a hostile, ever-changing alien planet, must investigate the desolate landscape of an ancient civilization in order to escape. Alone and isolated, Selene will face a fierce fight for survival. Time and time again, defeated, she finds herself forced to restart her journey every time she dies.
