Debra Messing is a confessed fan of Lucille Ball and played the actress in an episode of ‘Will & Grace’
Fans of actress Debra Messing were angry at the casting of actress Nicole Kidman to bring actress Lucille Ball (1911-1989) to life in ‘Being the Ricardos’, the next film by filmmaker Aaron Sorkin. The film will be set in a week in the life of Ball and her husband, actor, and musician Desi Arnaz (1917-1986) amid a crisis in the relationship. Still, without a release date, the feature should have Javier Bardem as Arnaz.
The discomfort of fans of Debra Messing with the option of Aaron Sorkin for Nicole Kidman stems from the fact that Messing not only resembles physically Lucielle Ball but because he is a confessed fan of the actress. Messing even came to play the idol in a special episode of ‘Will & Grace’ inspired by ‘I Love Lucy’, a production starring Ball and Desi Arnaz between 1951 and 1957.

“I have had many inspirations over the years, but Lucille Ball is by far the one with whom I have the most emotional connection,” said Messing at the time when the special episode of ‘Will & Grace’ inspired by ‘I Love Lucy’ was on the air.

“Get the damn phone and call Debra Messing now!” Exclaimed a fan of the actress on Twitter when she saw a link informing Kidman’s lineup. “Nicole is very talented and beautiful, but she can no longer move her face”, criticized another. “I love Nicole, but only Debra is perfect for this role,” said a third. “They stole Debra Messing!” Someone else complained.

So far, Messing, Sorkin, and Nicole Kidman have not publicly commented on the controversy surrounding the casting for “Being the Ricardos”. The film is currently in pre-production.
