after 6 consecutive highs, transmission rate reaches 1.01 in DF

The transmission rate of Covid-19 reached 1.01 in the Federal District this Friday (6/5). This is the index’s sixth straight rise after it approached 0.60 earlier this year. The data are from the epidemiological bulletin released by the Department of Health of the DF (SES/DF).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), when the transmission rate is above 1, it means that the pandemic is advancing. At 1.01, the index points out that a group of 100 people can infect another 101.

Despite this, the other indicators of the pandemic remain low. According to the bulletin, the DF recorded 139 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the health crisis, the federal capital has reported 697,512 infections and 11,660 deaths from the disease.

Sought, Health clarified that the transmission rate is not the only indicator used to define the epidemiological scenario. “It is essential to evaluate in parallel the moving average of cases and deaths, the percentage of positivity, the number of active cases, among other indicators”, he said in a note.

The folder highlighted that all measures taken to combat the coronavirus are based on expert assessments, scientific criteria and technical data. “The situation is monitored every day, in real time.”
