FORMULA 1 2022: WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE MIAMI GP + PORSCHE AND AUDI WILL ENTER? | Paddock GP #285

The debut of the Miami GP takes place this weekend, but it is possible to see that from the images of the track one thing is certain: it is a circuit that will demand speed from the cars. The British company Apex Circuit Design was responsible for the construction of the track, which does not deny that the circuit will be – on purpose – challenging for the teams.

“As a company, our aim is to challenge all F1 teams, their cars, their race engineers and of course their drivers,” said Charles Metcalfe, design engineer at Apex.

“So we focused on the corner sequences, a dynamic range of corners – from high speed to low speed – to achieve that. We did a lot of simulation work and intentionally made sure that there are different sequences of turns on a lap that favor different races,” he added.

“There is a very high speed and a high side section in Turns 4 and 8 where the cars are likely to struggle to pass and where vehicle performance on the exit of Turn 8 is critical for lap time, followed by two fast corners with power limitation in Turns 9 and 10, where we imagine wheel-to-wheel disputes”, he continued.

The length of the circuit is 5,412 meters and will have 19 turns. The race will be held with 57 laps, there will be three DRS zones. For the CEO of the British company, Clibe Bowen, the last sector will be a real “error generator”.

“The sequence from Turn 13 to Turn 16 is where we try to find balance,” explained Bowen. “But going to turn 14, you don’t see the apex of turn 15 until you are at the apex of turn 14. It’s what we call the ‘error generator’, so the opportunity for drivers to gain position is pretty high.” .

The Miami GP, which takes place this weekend, between the 6th and 8th of May. The race, on Sunday, is scheduled for 16:30 (Brasília). THE BIG PRIZE accompanies all the actions on the unprecedented American street circuit LIVE and in REAL TIME.
