Disney+ series main trio chosen

Disney+ and author Rick Riordan announced the choice of the main trio of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, a new adaptation of the worldwide hit franchise.

Last month, Riordan, the author of the books that the series will be based on who is heavily involved in the process, had already announced the young actor Walker Scobell for the role of Percy Jackson, the demigod boy protagonist of the series. Now, the other two main cast members have been revealed and Rick Riordan has used his blog to announce and comment on the picks.

Leah Sava Jeffries, Walker Scobell and Aryan Simhadri, protagonists of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”

Annabeth Chase, the brilliant demigod girl daughter of Athena who joins Percy Jackson in the adventure to discover the whereabouts of Zeus’ master lightning in the book series, will be played by Leah Sava Jeffries, from the series “Rel” and “Empire – Fame and Power”.

Riordan praised the young actress, saying that she “quickly became Annabeth’s #1 choice.” He further says that she “can break our hearts, make us laugh and make us root for her, all in the same scene.”

Jeffries has just finished filming the movie “Beast” in which she will play the daughter of Idris Elba’s character, and will also star in “Something from Tiffany’s”, an Amazon movie with Zoey Deutch and Shay Mitchell, produced by Reese Witherspoon.

“Leah is exactly just the way I pictured Annabeth in the books: smart, strong and brave, a true daughter of Athena who has zero patience for the nonsense of a certain Seaweed Head,” Riordan commented. “Seeing her perform with Walker and Aryan, I saw Annabeth Chace come to life. As soon as you see her on screen, you will know what I mean.”

The Aryan mentioned by Riordan above is Aryan Simhadri, the one chosen to play the satyr and friend of Percy, Grover Underwood. Riordan described him as “a veteran actor”, despite being so young. “He has a mix of sweetness, humor and inner toughness that is perfect for our favorite satyr,” Riordan said, adding that he was “the right guy for the job.”

Rick Riordan also took the opportunity to highlight the series’ visual effects: “The visual magic we’re going to use to give Aryan her satyr’s goat legs is something on another level. Wait till you see!”

To date, no other actors in the series’ cast besides the main trio Percy, Annabeth and Grover have been revealed. But even with the chosen trio, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” still doesn’t have a premiere date, but the recordings are already about to start, in June.
