Elisabeth Moss participated last Tuesday (3) on Watch Whats Happens Live with Andy Cohen to promote the new series Shining Girls, on Apple TV + and of course she was asked about the upcoming fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Asked about the effect of June killing Fred in Season 4, Moss agreed with the presenter’s line. “I have a feeling that killing Fred is somehow going to trigger Serena Joy in very dangerous ways,” Andy said. She responded, “Oh, you wouldn’t believe it!” hinting that the lynching will put a strain on June Osborne and Serena’s relationship in season five.

Moss also commented on the greater freedom in recording the new episodes compared to the fourth season, which had been recorded at the height of the pandemic. “‘What do I most expect?’ It’s a good season, we’re shooting outside, before we were in a very, very small studio. There’s a lot of new things to see, new locations, new sets, new places.”

Still, the actress added that June and her friends in Canada still have a lot to do as Gilead stands firm and strong. “The thing about killing Fred is that it’s just one man, you know, and that’s not necessarily going to solve the whole patriarchy problem.”

Currently, the four seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale are available in full and dubbed on Amazon Prime Video (Channels), Globoplay and UOL Play. The fifth season is being recorded in Canada and should premiere in the second half of 2022. Watch below the excerpt of the interview given to the program, with subtitles by Elisabeth Moss Brasil.
