Now it’s official, we will have “The Batman 2”! Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that the film will get a sequel and will feature the return of Robert Pattinson in the role of the hero and Matt Reeves in the direction. The announcement was made during the studio’s panel at CinemaCon 2022, according to information from the site collider.

Toby Emmerich, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, shared the news at CinemaCon, an annual event taking place in Las Vegas, USA, aimed at professionals in the film industry, until April 28th. The president took the stage and enlisted the help of director Matt Reeves to announce the sequel.

“Matt took one of our most iconic and beloved superheroes and delivered a new one,” revealed Toby Emmerich at CinemaCon. “Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson and the entire team will take audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2.”

During his presentation at the event, Reeves revealed that he is “excited to be returning to this world.” But they didn’t give more details. Things like other actors in the cast, release date, and the script for the next film were left unanswered.

While this is great news for fans, confirmation of the sequel is far from a surprise. That’s because, “The Batman” already has more than US$750 million in box office revenue, this still in a post-Covid-19 commercial context, in addition to the historic exhibition record that the film achieved when it entered the world. The production of “Batman” reached the top of the ranking of the most profitable films of a major Hollywood studio since the beginning of the pandemic, along with “Spider-Man: No Return Home”, “007: No Time to Die” and “Fast and Furious 9”.

In the plot, Bruce Wayne returns to the dark streets of Gotham City after two years causing fear in criminals, according to the official synopsis. “As questions come to the fore, Batman must build new relationships, unmask culprits and bring justice.”

In addition to Robert Pattinson, the production features Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as the villainous Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin.

It is worth remembering that the good return of the film made Warner Bros. bet on more projects in the same universe. Currently, at least two series are in pre-production on HBO Max. The first will show the rise of the villain Penguin, while the second will be set in the Arkham Asylum.

“Batman” arrived at HBO Max and digital platforms on April 18, and is available on Blu-ray and DVD. In addition to HBO Max, the feature arrived on Amazon Prime, Claro Now, Sky, UOL Play, Vivo Play, Watch, YouTube and Apple TV — and for purchase on Microsoft, YouTube and Apple TV.
