THE Varilux French Film Festival returns to the first half of the year bringing recent and unpublished successes of French filmography. Your 13th edition will be between June 21st and July 6th, with all the movies coming out exclusively in theaters from all over the country on the 23rd. There will be fourteen days with programming in the rooms, showing varied productions and many of them part of major festivals. Among the genres are works of comedy, drama, suspense and animation. A classic will pay homage to a great French name. The delegation of French actors and directors will be present in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where there will be debate sessions in cinemas with free admission.
The parallel activity, the Franco-Brazilian Screenplay Laboratory aimed at screenwriters, directors, film and TV professionals, is also confirmed. Its fifth edition is with open for subscriptions on the site until the 1st of June. 16 participants will be selected who, gathered in four groups, will work to develop the writing of feature film and TV series scripts.
In its 13th edition, the Varilux Festival remains the only festival held simultaneously in almost the entire country. It is the biggest event dedicated to disseminating French cinematography outside of France. Last year, even with Brazil still facing the Covid pandemic, 22 states and the Federal District received sessions in 49 cities and 94 cinemas. The in person holding of the Festival, with exhibition exclusively in cinemas, was one of the ways found by Bonfilm – the producer responsible for Varilux – to help with the resumption of culture and audiovisual, sectors greatly affected by the pandemic.
“Over the last two years, we’ve worked hard to keep in touch with our loyal audience: lovers of French filmography. We want to meet everyone again and win over new viewers to celebrate another year in movie theaters, the best place to consume movies. And we hope to see you all again at the festival – highlights the director and curator of Varilux, Christian Boudier.
THE Varilux French Film Festival is carried out by the production company Bonfilm and its main sponsors are Essilor/Varilux and Pernod Ricard/Lillet, in addition to the Ministry of Tourism, Special Secretariat for Culture and the City Hall of the City of Rio de Janeiro, Municipal Secretariat for Culture. Other important partners are the units of the French Alliances throughout Brazil, the French Embassy in Brazil, the companies Club Med, Air France and Ingresso.com, in addition to film distributors and independent/art cinema exhibitors and the major networks of commercial cinema.
