Increases load of coronavirus in Curitiba’s sewage network

Covid Esgotos Monitoring Network published an alert for the city of Curitiba. According to ANA (Agência Nacional de Águas e Saneamento), in the last three epidemiological weeks of 2022, there was a sharp increase in the viral load in the sewage network of the capital of Paraná. The values ​​found are 4 to 6 times higher than what was recorded in the week before April 12.

Monitoring is carried out in five sewage treatment plants in the city that serve the entire population of Curitiba and a fraction of the population of the Metropolitan Region. The Covid Sewer monitoring network is a project that was developed during the pandemic to expand the availability of information and contribute to the fight against the pandemic in the country.

The research, coordinated by ANA and the National Institute of Science and Technology in Sustainable Sewage Treatment Plants, is a partnership between Federal Universities and companies, with the support of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

The project is developed in the cities of Curitiba, Foz do Iguaçu, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District.
