A year after being released on TV, the fifth and final season of The Queen of the South arrived on US Netflix on April 7. Immediately, the series starring the Brazilian Alice Braga burst in audiencegetting ahead of real hits established on the platform, such as Grey’s Anatomy and Seinfeld (1989-1998), according to data from Nielsen, the Ibope of the United States.

Nielsen publishes a weekly audience ranking on all American streams, but with a delay of one month in relation to the measured period. This week, the table took into account measurements taken between the 4th and 10th of April, taking the period just before the start of the final season of the queen of the south on Netflix.

The drama, about how Teresa Mendoza (Alice) became one of the biggest drug dealers in the world, accumulated 476 million minutes watched, ahead of Grey’s Anatomy (457 million) and Seinfeld (355 million). In the so-called ranking of acquired series (from third parties), A Rainha do Sul was in sixth position; Better Call Saul was the leader.

In the US, the five seasons of The Queen of the South had a different performance than what happened in Brazilwhere the series went unnoticed on pay TV and only hit when it entered Netflix.

Aired by the subscription channel USA Network between 2016 and 2021, the attraction yielded good audience numbers, always appearing among the most watched of all American pay TV.

The fifth season of A Rainha do Sul is scheduled to enter Brazilian Netflix in the second half of this year, with no set date yet. ⬩
