On the night of next Sunday (8), Fortaleza and Sao Paulo face each other at Castelão, at 19:00 (Brasília time), for the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship. Tricolor comes from a draw away from home with Everton for the Copa Sudamericana and seeks to win the first match away from Morumbi in this Brasileirão.
The day before the match, São Paulo made official the renewal of the contract of defender Diego Costa, 22 years old. The new bond is valid until December 31, 2024. The player has been a starter in Rogério Ceni’s team, putting the idol Miranda on the bench.
The club’s president, Júlio Casares, celebrated the renewal, in an interview with São Paulo’s official website: “In another important work by the football department, we managed to renew the contract of Diego Costa, a talented and very promising young man. In this way, we will have more time with this important value from our base categories”.
Belmonte highlights appreciation of Tricolor base players
“We are working hard to value the boys in our base, always based on their merit. The athlete rises, has the opportunity, all our support, and is naturally valued when he reaches a position of importance in the squad, as is the case with Diego Costa at the moment”said Carlos Belmonte, vice president of football for São Paulo.
