– Felipão made me feel at ease, just as he did when he arrived at Palmeiras. I had a conversation with him before. He said: “guy, look, play, do what you want, it’s my responsibility”. The team asked me, I said that was it. I said: “professor, I don’t have much to invent, it was two days, let’s go make it as simple as possible so that things fall into place”, added the interim coach.

Wesley Carvalho was chosen to lead Athletico against Ceará after the dismissal of Fabio Carille and had only two days of preparation for this Saturday’s game. The coach used the little time to arm the team and talk to the players. The focus was to work on the mental part, even to recover the cast of the 5-0 rout against The Strongest, for Libertadores.

– These two days were very intense. At times like these, sometimes field training isn’t as important as the athletes’ mentality. First to recover from the difficult defeat they had. You have to talk a lot more, support, raise the athletes’ self-esteem, so that they can believe that they can turn around and make a game, even because they have already been able to prove that they are able to do that – commented Wesley Carvalho, in Collective interview.

About Athletico’s performance, Carvalho commented that Ceará is a difficult team and has already shown that in other recent games. Point that served as an alert about the way the Hurricane enters the field.

– We played with a difficult opponent, they beat Palmeiras at Allianz Parque, they have a very good transition, they have a number 10, Mendoza, who is going through a good phase, Vina playing with a false nine. It’s a fast team. It wasn’t my planning, obviously it was to make a pressure mark on the opponent all the time, to try to score a goal at the beginning and destabilize the opponent. It was not possible. The opponent started to create some situations and ended up pushing us back a little. At the end of the first half he managed to recover and ended up being a little more equal, we came back better in the second half – he analyzed.

Athletico return to the field on Tuesday, at 21:30, when they receive Tocantinópolis for the return game of the third phase of the Copa do Brasil. For the Brasileirão, the next game will be against Fluminense, Saturday, at Maracanã.
