Bia becomes 52nd and is 24 points away from entering the top 50

Miami (USA) – Saint Malo’s WTA 125 champion, Beatriz Haddad Maia from São Paulo started the week with a good leap in the rankings. She earned 13 placements and is now ranked 52nd on the WTA list, her best career placement so far.

Bia will compete this week in the WTA 125 in Paris, where she will be the number 3 seed and will have a difficult debut against the Australian Daria Saville. The southpaw from São Paulo has a chance of breaking into the top 50 for the first time, as she is just 24 points behind the current 50th place, but needs another good run in the tournament and rooting against closer rivals, some of them entered in Rome.

The São Paulo left-hander thus surpasses her previous best ranking, which was 58th place, obtained in September 2017. Even if she doesn’t get the advance this week, she will have an opportunity at Roland Garros, where she guaranteed a direct spot in the main draw.

Laura Pigossi, from São Paulo, was also up this Monday, who is slowly approaching the dreamed of top 100. The current number 2 in Brazil won two more places and is now 125th in the world. She and Bia are currently the only two Brazilian women in the top 200.

After them, the third best placed is Gabriela Cé, from Rio Grande do Sul, who overtook Carolina Meligeni Alves from São Paulo with her great rise of 60 places, thanks to the points scored in the two ITF W100 in the last few weeks in the United States, with the semifinals in Charleston and Wednesdays in Bonita Springs. She is now the 232nd in the world.

Cé is still a little short of her best, having reached 221st place in September 2019. Just below her is Carol Meligeni, who dropped four places this week and dropped to 236th place.
