Thus, according to the IPVA exemption rules, vehicles manufactured from 10 to 30 years ago are exempt from paying the tax. It all depends on the condition of the car. In the case of the states of Goiás, Rio Grande do Norte and Roraima, for example, the exemption applies to cars manufactured over 10 years old.

As for the states of Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí and Rio de Janeiro, the period to stop paying the tax is 15 years. In Mato Grosso, 18 years old; in São Paulo, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Acre and Rio Grande do Sul, 20 years old; and Alagoas, 23 years old.

Finally, in Santa Catarina, only vehicles manufactured 30 years ago are entitled to exemption from IPVA. This is the state that takes the longest to apply the tax exemption on cars. In the states of Minas Gerais and Pernambuco, on the other hand, the reduction is progressive. That is, the older the car, the less taxes you pay.
