City Hall of Hortolandia – Revista da Turma da Mônica in manga style is the most read work by users of the Municipal Library of Hortolândia

Volume entitled “Turma da Mônica Jovem – Strong emotions” was in the 1st position of the ranking of the most borrowed books in April

Mônica, Magali, Cebolinha and Cascão are all grown up and now face the dilemmas and challenges of adolescence. The adventures lived by the characters created by Maurício de Souza, in manga style (Japanese comics), are at the top of the preference of readers of the Municipal Library Terezinha França de Mendonça Duarte, an organ of the City Hall. The volume entitled “Turma da Mônica Jovem – Strong emotions” was the literary work that came in 1st place in the ranking of the most borrowed books by the library, in April. In addition to this volume, the series “Turma da Mônica Jovem” still appears on the list with three other titles. The library recorded a total of 1,059 loans in April. According to the unit’s coordinator, Rafael Antonio da Silva, April was the month in which the space registered the highest number of construction loans this year. Users have made extensive use of the library’s digital communication channels. Speaking of manga, another highlight is the series “Marmalade boy”, by Wataru Yoshizumi, artistic pseudonym of Japanese author Nakai Mari, which appears in the ranking with two volumes.

Children’s works continue to predominate in the taste of municipal library users. This is the case of the renowned series “Diary of a banana”, which appears with two titles. Another highlight is the fantasy series “Mechanical Angel”, by American writer Cassandra Clare, which appears on the list with the first volume “The Infernal Devices”.

In the best sellers segment, the highlights of the ranking are “The Year I Met You”, by Irish author Cecelia Ahern, and “The Cabin”, by Canadian novelist William P. Young, which was turned into a film of the same title, starring Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Tim McGraw and Brazilian Alice Braga.

Works considered classics also attract the interest of readers of the municipal library. This is the case of “The Thousand and One Nights”, a work that compiles popular stories and tales from the Middle East and Asia. Another highlight is “O Romanceiro da inconfidência”, one of the classics of Brazilian literature written by Cecilia Meireles. Another title, which is considered a classic of comics for adults, is the graphic novel “Maus – A Survivor’s Story”, by Swedish cartoonist Art Spiegelman.
