Covid transmission rate has a new high and reaches 1.12 in DF

The transmission rate of Covid-19 registered the seventh high in a row and reached 1.12 in the Federal District this Monday (9/5). At the beginning of the year, the index approached 0.60. The data are from the epidemiological bulletin released by the Department of Health of the DF (SES/DF).

With the update, the rate indicates that a group of 100 people can infect another 112. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), when the transmission rate is above 1, it means that the pandemic is advancing.

Other indicators of the pandemic remain low. According to the bulletin, the DF recorded 309 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the health crisis, the federal capital has reported 697,821 infections and 11,662 deaths from the disease.

Regarding cases, since 2020, about 45,500 people who tested positive for the disease in the DF lived in other units of the federation.

Sought, Health clarified that the transmission rate is not the only indicator used to define the epidemiological scenario. “It is essential to evaluate in parallel the moving average of cases and deaths, the percentage of positivity, the number of active cases, among other indicators”, he said in a note.

The folder highlighted that all measures taken to combat the coronavirus are based on expert assessments, scientific criteria and technical data. “The situation is monitored every day, in real time.”
