At the end of the game, the author of the last goal and the team’s top scorer of the year, forward Rayan, spoke about the result and the sequence in the competition:
“Very happy, I think it was one of our best games, but now we have to think about the next opponent, so we can win too”, he said.
With the victory, Vasco advances to the quarterfinals and will face the winner of the duel between Fluminense and Goiás, which takes place next Wednesday, at 15:00, in Laranjeiras. The tricolor won the first game 4-2.
Vasco had control of the first part of the game until the 35th minute. The carioca team opened the scoring early, at 12, after a beautiful pass from JB to GB who, inside the area, sent the ball to the colorada net. With the 1 to 0, the game was comfortable for Vasco, who extended the advantage of 4 to 0 in the first game, in São Januário. Losing by 5 to 0 on aggregate, the Internacional team went to the attack to try to reduce the damage. Over time, the colorada team increased the pressure and almost scored after the Vasco defender Lyncon blundered in front of forward Alex, who did not take the chance, face to face with the goalkeeper. Soon after, Ricardo Mathias scored the equalizing goal for Internacional after a good move. Alex and Wendel still had chances to turn the game around for the gaucho team.
Internacional still complained about a controversial move, involving Vasco’s defender Lyncon, inside the area. The Colorado striker Alex, from the right, crossed the area and the ball hit Vasco’s defender’s hand. Internacional’s players complained about a penalty, but the referee ordered the move to continue.
In the return of the interval, Internacional started pressing, but who reached the goal was Vasco. In a good move by GB, the forward gave a pass to André, free in the area, making it 2 to 1. The gaucho team felt the blow, and the game cooled down. Vasco started to manage the advantage, while Inter ran against time to try to decrease. Kauan Kelvin and Paulo Roberto still had chances to extend the score to Vasco. The first in a kick from outside the area, and the second in a beautiful header that the Colorado goalkeeper Diego sent for a corner. But the third goal came through a beautiful table between Paulinho, Paulo Roberto and Rayan, the team’s top scorer, who, inside the area, only had the job of sending it to the net.
