In recent months, the rivalry between Flamengo and Atlético-MG increased considerably, even due to the investment made by the Minas Gerais club, which has the support of Rubens Menin, owner of MRV. In 2022, Galo beat Mengão in the decision of the Supercopa do Brasil defined only in penalties. In the ball market, then, both intensify the dispute for great reinforcements.

Last Tuesday (10), the right-back Emerson Royal, holder of Tottenham and who emerged at Atlético-MG, gave an interview to the portal “Fla’s Column” and tore praise for the red-black club. In previous statements, the 23-year-old winger has already declared his desire to one day return to Galo, but surprised him by saying that he dreams of wearing Mengão’s shirt.

“Who wouldn’t play for Flamengo? My dream is to one day play for Flamengo. It’s the only club in Brazil today that comes close to the level of Premier League clubs.” replied Royal, who has also been called up by Tite to the Brazilian national team on other occasions. The full-back has a contract with the English team until June 2026.

Recently, Tottenham paid €30 million (approximately R$184 million at the current price) to sign him from Barcelona. At Atlético, there were only 23 games, adding one goal and one assist in 2018. The good performances and young age aroused the interest of the culés, who paid BRL 51 million for the transfer.
