In the name of aquafaba, cannelloni and the spirit of this cookie. Amen, new Eat Pray Love menu – Restaurants

Revolution. This is more or less what happened with the menu at the Eat Pray Love restaurant, in Cais do Sodré, in Lisbon. It’s a place to eat from morning to night and it’s a good thing it is, as there is so much to taste.

The letter was completely changed to celebrate the first year of life, with the exception of a few classics that, if taken away, would be like an attack on some customers. This is the case with kokoa, a chocolate cake topped with raspberries, known for being sinless, and sangrias, in particular passion fruit and vinho verde.

But to refresh you, there are other news in the cocktails section. One of them is Serenity, which we found interesting due to the fact that it uses aquafaba in order to give it some creaminess instead of using egg whites — thus making it a vegan cocktail, while being mega instagrammable.

The cocktails, which can be used as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a meal, are the symbol of balance in a restaurant with a flexitarian profile — with vegetarian, vegan and meat and fish options — as well as a healthier side, as at Eat Pray Love does not include refined sugars.

We went to see the new proposals in this area and we already left a teaser of what’s to come: a dessert to pray for more.

Eat from morning to night

Almost nothing has changed from the last one to the new menu, made in consultation with chef Amábile Kolenda, which is adjusted to all hours of the day (at least while Eat Pray Love is open, from 10 am to midnight).

To start the morning, you can opt for the new pancakes, such as the freshest seasonal fruits and açaí (7€) or the sweeter ones with banana, chocolate and coconut caramel sauce (7€). In the bowls, a chia tiramisù pudding appears at the top (€4.50) and calling summer a tropical bowl, with banana, mango, pineapple, turmeric, ginger and coconut drink (€6.50).

Whoever talks in the morning, talks about brunch or lunch, basically there are no hours of the day to eat everything that is served in the restaurant, adept at the concept of “brunch all day”. At 12:00 you can either go to eat the new brunch dish, consisting of burrata, sautéed vegetables, omelet, slice of slow-fermented bread, avocado, pesto sauce, seasonal salad (€12.80), or go at 2:00 pm and make a full late lunch.

There are toasts, such as the avocado and egg toast with hollandaise sauce (€7) and its vegan version with scrambled tofu instead of egg (€7.50), a courgette spaghetti salad, pesto sauce and burrata ( €8) or one of the burgers, including the brioche bun, vegan Tanah mushroom burger, roasted garlic and smoked pepper mayonnaise (€12.50).

As night approaches, you can sometimes enjoy the brand new tacos, a proposal introduced for the first time on the menu, including the spicy chicken (8€) and the cod with red pepper (8€), or the composite dishes.

There are two vegetarian options — fresh Thai curry (13) and roasted cauliflower with hummus (11€) —, one with meat, the chicken in a sauce with mushrooms and asparagus, accompanied by creamy cauliflower puree with truffle oil (12€) , and another for fish: salmon and cream cheese canelloni (€12.50).

We tried the latter and it has to be said that the order was made by mistake. By mistake because we are given the option to choose rice or salad as a side dish and we chose the salad because the idea of canelloni leads us to something heavy. And right there, we were completely wrong.

There were three plump canelloni soaked in a tomato sauce that immediately made us realize another mistake: we need rice. Putting the two together was the culmination of a successful and healthier meal, as this canelloni is made with slices of eggplant instead of the traditional egg pasta.

As for desserts, we only have one thing to say: pray.

Pray of satisfaction and on Saturdays

There are those who hold hands before starting the meal and those who prefer to leave the thanks for the end. Perhaps we would choose this last option, worthy of happening after the new vegan skillet cookie, served with coconut caramel and vanilla ice cream (€4.50). This description alone has our mouths watering again given the explosion of textures and temperature contrast that this piece of gluttony, in which refined sugars do not enter, evokes.

Whoever enters Eat Pray Love, more than the first proposal, eating, seeks to pray in the sense of having peace of mind.

This is achieved by nourishing the body more healthily and alsoo combining food with the practice of yoga, ballet, body dance or participation in workshops, lectures and events aimed at the well-being of the body and mind integrated in the new EPL Concept Studio + Brunch.

Every Saturday there will be a different schedule, from 10 am to 12 pm, which promises to take us to Bali, an island in Indonesia, where Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) went to find her peace in the film “Comer Orar Amar” (Comer Orar Amar) ( from the original title “Eat Pray Love”, which gives the restaurant its name).

Love always (and in good company)

From Sunday to Thursday is the day to pray at the table. But as soon as Friday and Saturday arrives, the prayers are replaced by the murmur of lyrics that will pass in the sessions of DJ sets and live music.

This is another of Eat Pray Love’s novelties and suitable for tasting the new cocktails. Among them is Love, by the way, a delicate and aesthetic cocktail, made with Smirnoff infused with vanilla, strawberry, lemon, coconut milk, elderflower liqueur, aquafaba (12€), which we have seen reaching other tables and to be lifted towards the mouth over and over again until this love in a tall glass is gone.

Love is for those who like sweeter drinks, but if your taste, like ours, prefers the opposite, Serenity, with Tanqueray London Dry, Aperol, lemon and aquafaba (12€), and Wellness (10€). ), are the best options. Although the latter looks like a green juice, it does have alcohol, Tanqueray London Dry, combined with cucumber, basil and lemon.

Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) would certainly like that in 2010, the year the film was released, this restaurant already existed so that she wouldn’t have to walk around the world to find herself. However, as soon as it opened in 2021, it entered the Eat Pray Love decor and never left. Like Liz Gilbert, we’ve already found our selves: at the table or on the yoga mat at Eat Pray Love.
