Hunger advances and reaches 33 million, research shows – 06/08/2022

In a setback that brings the problem to the level of 2004, hunger reached 33.1 million people in Brazil. The number increased by more than 50% in two years. In 2020, the country had 19 million starving (the technical term is severe food insecurity). The research was carried out by the Vox Populi Institute, commissioned by the Brazilian Research Network on Food and Nutrition Sovereignty and Security – integrated by Ação da Cidadania, Actionaid, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Brasil, Ibirapitanga, Oxfam Brasil and Sesc.
