Actress Scarlett Johansson (“Black Widow”) will star in the drama “The Sea Change”, which will mark the directorial debut of actress Kristin Scott Thomas (Oscar nominee for “The English Patient” and currently in the series “Slow Horses”) .
The film is based on Elizabeth Jane Howard’s 1959 novel of the same name, which tells the story of a London playwright named Emmanuel and his embittered wife, who still haven’t gotten over the death of their daughter. The couple’s troubled marriage takes an unexpected turn when they travel to a remote Greek island.
Johansson’s role has not been confirmed, but she will likely play Lillian, Emmanuel’s wife.
The screenplay was written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, who has signed several award-winning films – “Ida” (2013), “Disobedience” (2017) and “Colette” (2018).
The production is independent, from AGC Studios, and there is still no premiere date.
Scarlett Johansson will next be seen in “Asteroid City”, Wes Anderson’s new comedy (“French Chronicles”), currently in post-production, and is also involved with the thriller “Project Artemis”, in which she will star opposite Chris Evans ( his fellow Avengers), the drama “Bride”, by Sebastián Lelio (“A Fantastic Woman”), and the fantasy “Tower of Terror”, based on a Disney ride.
