AMD’s Next APU Will Be Named ‘Phoenix Point’
AMD revealed this Friday (10) the codename for the next line of desktop processors Ryzen 8000 AM5, with Zen 5 architecture. baptized as ‘Granite Ridge‘, the new CPUs arrive in late 2023 as successors to the Ryzen 7000 ‘Raphael’.
The Ryzen 8000 will have Zen 5 microarchitecture, which was also presented this Friday (10). Zen 5 architecture will debut on ‘Granite Ridge’ for desktops. The new processors, like the Ryzen 7000 lineup, will feature an iGPU (integrated GPU) for desktop productivity. It is important to note that AMD itself will not consider ‘Granite Ridge’ an APU. For the company, an APU is a processor with iGPU capable of gaming, which is not what Ryzen 8000 processors are about.
AMD also stressed that the next APU from the hardware maker will be the ‘Phoenix Point’, which will integrate a tool called the AI Inference Accelerator (AIE), which is apparently a hardware performance acceleration component.
AMD Announces ‘Turin’ EPYC Processors
If the Zen 5 architecture debuts for desktops with Granite Ridge CPUs, on the server side it will debut with EPYC ‘Turin’ processors, which will be released in 2024.

The EPYC line is aimed at the business market, serving server machines, cloud services and other areas of HPC. The fifth generation of EPYC processors will have models using Zen 5 V-Cache and Zen 5c technologies. AMD has not yet revealed much information about the ‘Turin’ family, but if the fifth generation of server processors follows the same line as the fourth generation, we will have at least four versions, each focused on a different market segment.
The first EPYC Turin processors manufactured by the company will use the 4 nm node. Over time, AMD will manufacture the newest 5th Gen EPYC CPUs with the 3nm process and will also take advantage of the Zen 5 architecture improvements. the EPYC ‘Turin’ family specifications and also how many versions of the CPUs will be released.
AMD RDNA3 at 5nm will have 50% higher efficiency than RDNA2
The company also revealed the launch schedule of its upcoming technologies.
