Last Thursday was marked as the farewell of Paulo Sousa do Flamengo. The troubled day ended with a farewell dinner and the goodbye of the technical committee behind the scenes of Rubro-Negro.
Sousa and his companions said goodbye to the Fla delegation’s hotel, in Atibaia, and went to a lodging in greater São Paulo. The farewell logistics were all organized by the carioca club.
This Friday morning, Sousa and the commission went to Congonhas airport, where they boarded a chartered jet to Rio de Janeiro.
Flamengo organized the entire schedule from embarkation to disembarkation. It should be noted that Paulo and his companions used an exclusive exit at both airports. In addition, a team of red-black staff received the Portuguese’s coaching staff at Santos Dumont and they all went on their journey to Ninho do Urubu.
At the CT, the termination procedures were carried out. Sousa signed the contract termination and, officially, said goodbye to the red and black. The commission used the time at the Ninho to say goodbye to the professionals who had been together daily for more than five months.
Throughout the day, goalkeeper coach Paulo Grillo and assistant coach Manuel Cordeiro published a farewell post for Flamengo on the social network.
Training before dismissal
Sousa’s resignation was already foreseen since the defeat to Red Bull Bragantino on Wednesday. Even aware of the fact, the coach maintained his professionalism and normally followed the working day on the farm and even gave the training.
The announcement of the termination took place only at the beginning of the night, after a meeting with Marcos Braz (vice president) and Bruno Spindel (executive director). From this moment, Flamengo started all the planning to provide full assistance to the Portuguese.
Flamengo went quickly to the market and, before making Sousa’s resignation official, it was already agreed with Dorival Júnior.
The announcement of the new commander took place in the early afternoon of this Friday. At the end of the day, Dorival was already regularized at the BID and ready to be on the field against Internacional, tomorrow (11), for the Brasileirão.
