Perez fastest in last practice for F1 Azerbaijan GP

Sergio Pérez, a Red Bull driver, led the last practice for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the eighth stage of the 2022 Formula 1 season, held this Saturday (11) in the streets of Baku.

Verstappen had to abandon his fast lap after Valtteri Bottas escaped at turn 3. The Dutchman had set the fastest time in the first sector on another lap, but had to pull back after meeting Fernando Alonso at turn 12.

Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, the McLaren driver duo, finished P5 and P6 respectively.

AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly finished seventh, while Mercedes continued to struggle with their overall performance.

George Russell qualified eighth, 1.4s off the pace, while Lewis Hamilton was a few tenths behind in 12th place. Both drivers complained about the W13’s lack of rear grip.

Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were 9th and 11th respectively for Alpine, interspersing Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel.

There was a 15-minute delay to the start of the session as repairs were carried out on the barriers at Turn 1 following an accident in the previous Formula 2 race.

The session lasted up to one hour, which means that, according to article 39 of the regulations – which states that there must be a two-hour window between the end of practice and the start of Q1 – qualifying will now start 15 minutes after the start of the session. initially programmed.
