The journey of the men’s volleyball team in the League of Nations had its first big challenge this Saturday (11/6). Renan Dal Zotto’s men faced the very strong team from the United States that, like Brazil, was undefeated in the competition. In a game in which the team’s service errors drew attention, the visitors were superior and won with partials of 21/25, 27/25, 25/20 and 25/20.
As in the first two games, Brazil entered the court with significant absences. Coach Renan still couldn’t count on injured Leal and Lucarelli, who should only return in the second stage of the Nations League. Even defeated, Brazil had the highest scorer of the match. Alan Souza finished with 23 points scored.
The first set started with Brazil missing a lot of serves. However, the green and yellow team managed to balance the game by exploiting the American blocks well. Dal Zotto’s team arrived at the mandatory technical stoppage winning by 12/11. On the way back, the first decisive factor of the set. Rodriguinho hit a good serve and scored an ace. After that, the Brazilian team got ready and, counting on a good defense and with crucial blocks, closed with 25/21.
The following partial also had a tight start, with both teams making little mistakes. Unlike the first set, the USA reached the mandatory time-out in front: 12/10. From then on, the match remained balanced and the teams started to miss some serves. The definition looked like it would be in the details, which made Renan Dal Zotto stop the game when the score pointed to 20/18 for the opponent. The break took effect and Brazil tied on 23/23. The set was only decided with an American block, which closed on 27/25.
In the following set, the balance was maintained at the beginning, with both teams missing few serves. Brazil managed to take the score by two points until the mandatory stop: 12/10. On the way back, the American block made the difference and the USA turned the game to 19/16, forcing a time-out from the Brazilian coach. In the final part of the set, the US serve, combined with Brazil’s reception errors, were decisive for the North Americans to get the 25/20 victory.
The Brazilian team started the fourth set without its captain and main setter, Bruninho. The Brazilian serve did not fit in the first part of the partial and forced Dal Zotto to stop the match with a 9/6 for the Americans. Until the mandatory time-out, the teams continued exchanging points, 12/9 for the USA. The ball did not want to fall in favor of Brazil and the opponent opened 20/16. At that moment, the crowd started to encourage more and the Brazilian team reduced the difference to 20/18. But the USA came back to impose itself and closed the set by 25/20 and the game by 3×1.
