‘I am amazed and believing in your words’, says Bolsonaro about Biden

After meeting with Joe Biden for about 30 minutes in parallel with the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, US President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he was “really amazed” with the US leader and hopes to believe his words.

“We sat for 30 minutes, at a distance of less than one meter and without a mask. I felt from President Biden a lot of sincerity and a lot of desire to solve certain problems that are obviously beyond the full responsibility of each of us, but together we can look for an alternative to put a end to these conflicts,” he said.

“Yesterday’s experience was simply fantastic. I’m really amazed and believing in your words and what was treated privately between us”, he added.


During the speech, Bolsonaro said that Brazil is one of the countries that most preserve the environment. The Brazilian chief executive also spoke of a “clear attack on individual freedoms” and stated that his government works for democracy.

In addition, the President of the Republic stressed that the Armed Forces and the Federal Police have been working in the “tireless search” for Brazilian indigenist Bruno Araújo and British journalist Dom Phillips, who disappeared in the Vale do Javari region, in Amazonas, since last Sunday. (5).

During the first meeting between the leaders since the Democrat took over the White House, in January of last year, topics such as environmental preservation and defense of the democratic regime were discussed.


The Chief Executive once again raised suspicions about the Brazilian election and said that he would leave the Presidency of the Republic “in a democratic way” in the event of an eventual defeat in this year’s elections.

In the conversation, Bolsonaro told the president of the United States that Brazil feels its sovereignty over the Amazon is threatened. The Brazilian Chief Executive assured the American that the government does its best to preserve the forest and does not disrespect the country’s environmental legislation.

Bolsonaro receives criticism from several leaders in relation to the management of combating deforestation in the Amazon region, which registers high. In April this year, 1,013 km² of forest were devastated, according to data from the alert system of the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe). This is the highest number for the month since the beginning of the historical series, in 2016.
