Sony and Marvel’s “Madame Web” continues to grow. With Dakota Johnson and Sidney Sweeney confirmed, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim are the news.
From Sony Pictures and Marvel, “Madame Web” is a spin-off of the “Spider-Man” universe and the first with a female character at the forefront of the story. With Dakota Johnson confirmed early on as the central figure, the film has been gaining new faces in the cast and the most recent are the young Isabela Merced (“Sweet Girl”) and Tahar Rahim (“The Serpent”).
The two actors thus join the project that already has Johnson, Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria”) and Celeste O’Connor (“Freaky”). Directed by SJ Clarkson (“The Defenders” and “Jessica Jones”), “Madame Web” is scripted by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (“Morbius”). For now the roles of Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim have not been revealed, so it is not known if they will be characters already in the comics or created specifically for the film.
Featured in the story of “The Amazing Spider-Man” (#210), Madame Web is a character created by Dennis O’Neil and John Romita Jr. She also had guest appearances in the 90s Spider-Man animated series as a mentor to Peter Parker himself. In 2010 she appeared in the game “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions”.
The project joins a wide range of spin-offs of the arachnid superhero; Sony Pictures has already bet on “Venom”, “Venom: Time of Carnage” and, most recently, “Morbius”. In development, in addition to this new feature film, there are also “Kraven, the Hunter“, a villain from the Spider-Man universe, and “El Muerto“, another secondary character in the story.
