Grey’s Anatomy star Scott Speedman has indicated that Ellen Pompeo’s reduced role in Season 19 could be the start of a new path for the series.
It was recently confirmed that Pompeo will appear in just 8 episodes of the new season. Because of this, fans have been speculating about what this reduced role in the series’ plot could mean.
Speedman plays Nick Marsh, Meredith Grey’s love interest, revealed to Digital Spy that the series may be turning to new characters.
“We’re still very early in the season, and I’m picking up on what they want to do. I think there is a lot of movement there. The announcement of her reduced role creates a lot of anticipation in what it will be and what she will look like”, reflects the actor.
And he continues: “But we will see. I think they’re playing around with a lot of different ideas that I’m not privy to, I think they’re trying to fit it all together. But it will be interesting to see what the show is about.”
Renewed energy on Grey’s Anatomy
Speedman insists the series will have renewed energy being brought in by the new interns, but makes it clear that it’s not a reboot.
“They’re not rebooting the show, but it has a new energy with four or five new interns a la 2005. So really, it’s all about them kind of becoming a bigger part of the show. I will say this. But I don’t know where I am. I don’t know, to be honest. I’m here for a while, and we’ll see.”
Meanwhile, Kate Walsh was recently confirmed to return to the medical drama. Viewers will see Addison again in the third episode. She will appear sporadically throughout the remainder of season 19 within a specific arc.
