New David Cronenberg film already has a premiere date in Portugal – Cinevisão

In a statement, PRIS Audiovisuals announced the premiere date of David Cronenberg’s new film, the sci-fi horror thriller “crimes of the future” (Crimes of the Future), a film that made its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, in competition for the Palme d’Or.

According to the Portuguese distributor, the film, starring Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart, will be released in Portuguese cinemas on November 24th.

“Crimes of the Future” portrays the story in a futuristic society, where there is no pain. At a time when humanity learned to change its biological “makeup” – some naturally, others surgically – the human body mutates. Surgery is seen as a spectacle and as a new form of pleasure.

The plot takes place in a dystopian future, where humans have learned to live together and adapt to synthetic environments, in which the species must go beyond what its natural state allows and undergo a metamorphosis, which causes a change in its biological composition. While some embrace the limitless potential of transhumanism, others try to police it.

In any case, the Accelerated Evolution Syndrome is spreading rapidly. Saul Tenser (Mortensen) is a world-renowned artist who uses this new state of being for his art, making changes to his body publicly. Along with Caprice (Seydoux), Tenser has turned the removal of his own organs into a spectacle for his faithful followers to marvel at, a kind of theatrical performance.

With a subculture and society obsessed with surgery, Timlin (Stewart), a researcher at the National Organ Registry, is warily aware of his movements, and wants to use Saul’s notoriety to spread the consequences of his experience to the world.

“I think everything Cronenberg does, and I could be wrong, but what I feel is it’s done through a very visceral desire. That’s the only reason we’re alive, sex for pleasure. And it’s very honest and always in a way that allows us to create detachment from the world we live in,” said Kristen Stewart.
