Suspension of disbelief is necessary when consuming superhero movies. However, Amanda Seyfried found “Guardians of the Galaxy” so bizarre, she passed up the opportunity to star in it. On the “Awards Chatter” podcast, she explained that she initially predicted the film would be a box office disappointment.
“I didn’t want to be a part of the first Marvel movie that blew up,” admitted Seyfried. “I said, ‘Who wants to see a movie about a talking tree and a raccoon?’ Which is clearly – I was very wrong.” She added that it would be difficult to get her career back if the film failed. “The script was great; it was all based on not wanting to be ‘that guy,’” she continued. “Because if you’re the star of a giant movie like this and it bombs, Hollywood won’t forgive you. I saw it happen to people, and it was a giant, giant fear – and I thought, is it worth it? “
Additionally, Seyfried said that she didn’t want to be covered in green makeup, leading fans to assume that she had turned down the role of Gamora. “I refused [a superhero movie] once, and they haven’t called back since,” she told MTV. “And it was a big problem. I don’t regret it because I didn’t want to be green for six months every year.” That sounds like a valid reason to us!
