“The Old Man” may not go very far, but for Jeff Bridges we go everywhere – Observer

The best thing that happened to the world of television in recent years was the fact that the great actors of Hollywood realized that being the protagonist of a series was not equivalent to being stuck for 20 years in the same role in a soap opera. That’s because of someone whose name we shouldn’t pronounce (read very quickly: Kevin Spacey) who, thanks to “House of Cards” and its tremendous success, opened the door to everyone else (Nicole Kidman, “Big Little Lies” ; Kate Winslet, “Mare of Easttown”; Anthony Hopkins, “Westworld”; Amy Adams, “Sharp Objects”; Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective” – we could keep this up long enough to win the final showcase of “One, Two, Three” ”, but we have other matters to talk about). The investment of platforms streaming did the rest: more productions, more quality and the possibility of reaching the entire world at the same time. We were all winning.

This brings us to “The Old Man” – available on Disney+ from this Wednesday, September 28 –, whose main role fell into the hands of Jeff Bridges, an imposing figure on the screen who, throughout his career, has had many nominations. , but only qb wins (seven Oscar nominations, one win; five Golden Globe nominations, one win and one honorable award; five SAG Award nominations, one win). At the age of 72, he ended up in a series and the production of Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine can thank him, because he is the one who carries “The Old Man” on his back.

Bridges is Dan Chase, a former CIA agent who became involved in a war that was not his (Afghanistan invaded by the Soviet Union in 1979), ending up having to flee and disappear. For years he led a false but peaceful life. That is, until someone breaks into his house and tries to kill him – the time for restful reforms is over. Chase is on the run again as he tries to figure out who’s after him.
