Anderson Barros criticizes Palmeiras x Atlético-MG refereeing: “gross VAR error”

After the victory of Palmeiras over Atlético-MGthis Wednesday, at Mineirão, the director of Football at Verdão, Anderson Barros, made a statement in which he criticized the refereeing of the match, led by Marcelo de Lima Henrique and the performance of VAR.

The Palmeiras leader began his speech by recalling the arbitration controversies in the elimination to São Paulo, in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil.

“Once again, we need to talk about arbitration. We need to talk about our refereeing decisions. We had, in the recent past, a problem in the Copa do Brasil. To this day, we have not had an explanation,” he said.

When talking about the bids of the duel against Atlético-MG, Anderson Barros even softened the performance of Marcelo de Lima Henrique, but did not spare criticism of the performance of the VAR team, commanded by Rodrigo Carvalhaes de Miranda.

“The referee may have made most of the correct decisions. But, when he needed what would be the tool that would facilitate decisions, once again, there was an extremely gross error by VAR in today’s game, by not scoring the penalty on top of Atuesta. He didn’t even call the referee for a decision”, declared the official, who also disagreed with the disciplinary decisions of the arbitration.

“We can talk more. When the first Dodô cart happened on top of Mayke. It would be the first yellow, and then there would be the second yellow, then an expulsion. Ron’s entrance,” he added.

The move of a possible penalty for Palmeiras happened in the second stage, when Verdão was already winning by 1 to 0. Atuesta received a step by Mariano when he invaded the left side of the Atletica area. According to the Palmeiras, the contact happened when the midfielder was already on top of the penalty area line.

Another complaint happened in the final stretch of the match, when Breno Lopes came to swing the net to score what would be the second goal from Palmeiras. The move, however, was annulled, as the referee Marcelo de Lima Henrique noted Rafael Navarro’s foul on Mariano at the origin.

Despite complaints with the referee and the seven absences, Palmeiras managed to secure the 1-0 victory at Mineirão, with a goal from defender Murilo. With the result, Verdão reached 60 points and opened nine points of advantage in the leadership of the Brazilian Championship, with the stumble of Internacional.
