British company builds solar complex in Ceará and will generate 800 jobs – Victor Ximenes

Lightsource BP, a solar energy multinational with presence in 18 countries, reported that it has concluded “all the conditions precedent for the disbursement of financial resources” for the Milagres Solar Complex, which will include five solar parks in Abaiara, in the interior of Ceará.

The construction of the parks, according to the company, began in September. The total investment is R$ 800 million.

The works on the complex’s transmission system began in December 2021, and the construction of the five solar parks began this month, in Abaiara, in the state of Ceará, with an investment of BRL 800 million.

Banco do Brasil, through the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE), managed by the Northeast Development Superintendence (Sudene), will finance R$ 423 million; and the rest of the resources needed to implement the projects will be invested directly by Lightsource BP.

Start of operations

The parks will begin commercial operation in early 2024 and will have the capacity to generate 460,000 MWh per year, enough energy to supply approximately 212,000 homes.

During construction, 800 jobs will be created, with priority for local labor.

“Most of its energy was traded in the free contracting environment in contracts signed with companies with high financial strength”, says the company.

“These contracts reinforce the importance of the country in Lightsource BP’s global strategy. The company’s objective is to commercialize the energy from our projects in the most profitable way possible, creating good business and partnerships that add value to the company, customers and shareholders”, points out Ricardo Barros, Country Manager of the company.

The civil works of the photovoltaic plants have already been started by the construction company Motrice, a Brazilian company specialized in solutions for the construction of renewable energy generation, transmission and distribution systems.

Lightsource BP carried out a global procurement process for the selection of equipment suppliers, choosing suppliers such as: Canadian Solar, Nextracker and Huawei for modules, tracker structures and inverters respectively.
