In the blow, Luis Quiñones suffered a clot in his head, which was decisive to complicate his health condition. He even underwent surgery before being placed in an induced coma.
– Boxe Cuadrilatero deeply regrets the death of Luis Quiñones, an exceptional human being, disciplined and who has always shown the greatest commitment to this sport. We would like to thank the staff of Clínica General do Norte, who during this time did what they could and took care of Luis in the best way possible – said Quiñones’ businessmen in a statement on Friday.
The knockout came in the eighth round after an interruption by the referee for José Muñoz to put on his mouthguard. At that moment, Quiñones already had wobbly legs, as a result of the many blows suffered in the previous minutes.
Upon being knocked out, the Colombian was immediately placed on a stretcher. As the doctors determined the severity of the problem, he was removed to the North General Clinic immediately. With neurological deterioration, he couldn’t resist days later.
