The Ponto Firme Project, created by stylist Gustavo Silvestre, will be one of the attractions at Paris Fashion Week, in a fashion show that takes place on the 3rd at Palais Tokyo, in collaboration with Swedish stylist Kevin Germanier. The Brazilian prepared 20 crochet pieces with the help of trans women and refugees, who also worked in the collection shown at the last SPFW.
the approach of Gustavo Silvestre with Kevin Germanier emerged from the visit of a French delegation, invited by the French embassy in Brazil, to learn about Brazilian initiatives that make a difference and are representative in relation to environmental and social sustainability in fashion. “The Ponto Firme school was one of those spaces that they were interested in and chose to visit and our identification was immediate. Since then, we have strengthened the relationship. He was delighted with our work, especially the synergy with his, and invited us to a collab in its next collection that will be presented at Paris Fashion Week”, said Gustavo Silvestre.
Kevin Germanier has stood out in the fashion world for creating pieces from materials that are discarded, transforming waste into luxury. He has dressed celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Björk, Taylor Swift, Kristen Stewart, Ivete Sangalo and Sabrina Sato. The latter, at the last Vogue Ball, in April.
From beads, fabrics, feathers and other items discarded by the textile industry, the stylist builds luxurious, fun, cheerful pieces that exude creativity and originality. His eponymous brand launched in 2018, but he has already partnered with major brands such as Christian Louboutin and Swarovski.
With the Ponto Firme project and school, Gustavo Silvestre developed collections with inmates, egresses from the penitence system and people in situations of social vulnerability, also reusing materials and waste, experimenting with beads, chains and discard materials that are worked with crochet. This social approach, in addition to the sustainability that is already very present in the works, aroused the interest of the French, including Kevin, during his visit to the space.
“My work as a stylist and designer, and also with Ponto Firme, has a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation in the use of materials. so many resources available, which with creativity and sensitivity, can be transformed in an incredible way. This transforming power is in the essence of Ponto Firme both in terms of sustainability as in social. We believe in new ways of presenting discarded materials and also in the ability of manual work to reintegrate people into society in a dignified way”, added Silvestre, who has the support of the lines company Círculo S/A for the development of his work.
“For this collab with Kevin Germanier, we will send 20 pieces developed in crochet with Susi, Liza, Barroco and Verano yarns. In addition, the productions feature beads, discarded materials and metal ribbons”, explains Silvestre, who chose a palette of vibrant colors to create the pieces. organization’s digital platform of the event.
