Vladimir Putin calls for correction of errors in mobilization campaign in Ukraine – News

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called for the correction of “all mistakes” made in the ongoing mobilization in Russia to strengthen the offensive in Ukraine, in a context of growing discontent with an often chaotic recruitment.

The press and many Russians on social media reported on the mobilization of elderly people, students, the sick or people with no military experience. The recruitment also sparked protests and the flight of thousands of men abroad.

“This mobilization raises many questions. It is necessary to correct all mistakes and act so that they do not happen again,” Putin said in a videoconference meeting with the Security Council, shown on Russian TV.

The president mentioned the recruitment of parents of large families, of people with serious illnesses or of advanced age, cases that by law should be exempt. “If a mistake has been made, it must be corrected and whoever was summoned without proper reason must be returned home,” added the Russian president.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov had already admitted on Monday that there were “mistakes” in the mobilization, which affects 300,000 reservists with previous military experience or useful skills, such as drivers of heavy vehicles.

More than 2,400 people have been arrested in demonstrations against the mobilization in Russia since the announcement on September 21, according to the specialized organization OVD-Info.

Thousands of Russians also decided to flee the country, causing huge queues at the borders with Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Finland. Flights were also in high demand.
