With the right to an exceptional campaign, to the delight of China Azul, Cruzeiro won the Serie B title with no less than six rounds to spare. And the brand represents a new record in the history of the competition.
Since the tournament started to be played in the current format, with 20 clubs playing in straight points, in shift and return, until then the team that had won the title the longest was Corinthians.
In the 2008 campaign, the São Paulo team, then led by coach Mano Menezes, lifted the cup in the 34th round of the competition, something that, for a long time, seemed almost impossible to repeat.
But under the command of coach Paulo Pezzolano, Raposa was not ‘content’ just to equal the record: it took two fewer rounds to be able to release the champion’s cry.
Altogether, in 32 rounds, Cruzeiro had 21 wins, eight draws and only three defeats, which corresponds to an advantage of 73.95%
For the last six rounds that still remain, Pezzolano has already warned that he will give opportunities to players in the squad who were not much used during the competition, but assured that the team will continue playing “firm” until the end. Thus, the heavenly fans can even wait for new records from this team that got used to pulverizing marks.
