Uruguayan commented on his adaptation to Verdão and opens the game about the moment of the season
With the recent victories in the derby against Santos and Atlético Mineiro, the last one this Wednesday (28), valid for the 28th round of the competition, Palmeiras further increased their advantage in the leadership of the Brazilian Championship. Now with 60 points, the São Paulo team has three triumphs and two draws in the last five games and a nine-point advantage over the vice-leader, Fluminense.
In an interview with TV Palmeiras, left-back Joaquín Piquerez commented on the good moment in Alviverde and praised the recent victories: “It was a very important triumph (against Atlético-MG), mainly because of the moment of the championship and because it was a direct rival. We had a lot of absences, but, as we say, we have a very competitive team. Whoever plays, we can play well.”
The Uruguayan defender has been at Verdão for just over a year and said he is fully adapted to Brazil and the way Abel Ferreira builds the team. On the other hand, he stressed that the beginning was full of ups and downs: “Each coach has his way of playing, his system. The player has to adapt as quickly as possible to help. In Uruguay, I played differently. In Palmeiras it is different. But I’m adapted.”
With four titles won since joining the team, the winger can overtake fellow countryman Matías Viña, whom he replaced, as the fifth Uruguayan with the most wins with the Palmeiras shirt. With more than a 95% chance of a title for Verdão, Piquerez still preaches care against Botafogo, his next opponent: “Botafogo has been improving in the championship, they won the last game and will play at home”.
