René Simões apologizes to Luís Castro and praises Botafogo for keeping him: ‘I was delighted with his education and knowledge’

Former coach of Botafogo and with several works in Brazil and abroad, Rene Simões made an apology to the alvinegro coach Luís Castro. Recently, in an interview with the program “Samba que é Gol”, René said that he did not know much about the work of the current coach and that the Portuguese had only acted as coordinator or director.

– I want to publicly apologize to Luís Castro, I was unhappy with information I had that was not correct. I was with him on a course and he showed his knowledge, the clubs he worked for, Shakhtar, Champions League, and I said (at the time) that he had only been a director. I apologized to him over the phone – said René in an interview with the channel “Resenha com TF”

– I was with him at an international football meeting and I was delighted with his education, his knowledge, his narrative of how the Champions League was. In the course, I was very embarrassed, it was a punctured ball, information that I was totally wrong. Then we exchanged phone numbers and had lunch – he added.

René Simões praised Botafogo for having kept Luís Castro even after a difficult period in the season, with a streak of no wins and elimination in the Copa do Brasil.

– I said that if I were a Brazilian coach, he would have been fired some time ago, but what Botafogo is doing is right. You have to take the time to work, get the players, all that… – he said.
