Influencer Mayra Bittar caused controversy on social media after releasing prints of a follower’s request for help. In the messages, a woman asked for R$15 to buy gas and Mayra suggested that she sell her cell phone to buy ingredients to sell brigadeiro. (see messages below).
“Mayra, I’m really sorry for bothering you. I really need R$ 15 to ‘me’ to buy my gas. Could you not give me that strength?”, said the follower.
“Can I give you a tip? Sell your cell phone! Buy ingredients to make brigadeiro and sell until you start saving money. Sometimes we need to take two steps back and that’s okay! Better than asking and depending on others”, replied Mayra.

To g1, Mayra explained that she has already talked to the girl who asked for help other times and that the messages released are only part of the conversation. The influencer said that she did not deny help, but was willing to help in another way and is even looking for companies that can employ her. The influencer also vented that she is suffering attacks on the internet (See full position at the end of the report).
“I had complete freedom to set an example for her, not just to solve an immediate problem that she was having, but maybe think about the future. I may have been unfortunate in my communication to outsiders who don’t have access to context. It was an affection I had. A learning experience for this issue of communication, as I work with it”, said Mayra.
In the prints posted on the internet, the follower thanked her after Mayra’s response, who highlighted her desire to help solve the problem in the long term. However, the backlash was negative on the internet. In a post made on Twitter last Friday (30), thousands of people criticized the influencer. The post has more than 45,000 likes.
“And the pride of the blogger from Goiás? The woman asked for 15 reais to buy cooking gas. The blogger simply told her to sell her cell phone to buy ingredients and go sell brigadeiro! And she even had the courage to post thinking she was the ‘kinga’ of entrepreneurship!”, Wrote the publication.
In the post, netizens criticized Mayra.
“I know no one is obligated to help, but being aware of the ridiculous should be mandatory!” wrote one young man.
“Unbelievable that. The craziest thing is that she thought it was genius to the point of posting this for everyone to admire”, commented another person.

The influencer from Goiás said that, after the repercussion, she has been suffering attacks on the internet and being cursed on her profile. To g1, Mayra said that she was at the wake of an aunt when she began to receive several messages on the subject. At that moment, she published two videos commenting on the subject. (watch below).
“Many judged as they wished and I understand these judgments, because no one had access to all the conversations, right? And neither to my history with the [moça que pediu ajuda]! I’m getting a lot of messages and I’m at peace because I’ve been talking to Solange and she herself was worried about everything that was going on,” she told her.

Mayra also said that some followers explained the error to her in an instructive way.
“Others came politely to disagree with my opinion, and those I made a point of talking about. It was very good. I understood their point and they understood mine. This exchange is incredibly good and healthy when it has respect”, he explained.

Positioning by Mayra Bittar
THE [moça que enviou a mensagem] follow me for a while and always comment and interact in my stories. It’s a cutie. I never knew if she was fake or not, but I always answered, as I answer everyone there.
On the day she asked me “R$15 for gas”, I had complete freedom to set an example for her, not only to solve an immediate problem that she was having, but yes, maybe think about the future. I may have been unhappy in my communication to outsiders who don’t have access to the context, but she was already a person who already interacted with me. It was an affection I had. A lesson for this issue of communication, as I work with it.
When I wrote about “cellular”, “brigadeiro”, it was as an example of taking two steps back, to take a thousand steps forward. At no time did I refuse to help her, but I was willing to help in another way (including researching companies that could employ her in the city where she lives).
When I posted my positioning on the networks, of course, without exposing her page, I posted and said that sometimes something that would be easy for us (like, taking some money out of your pocket) may not help much to those who need it. Maybe it helps at that moment, but it’s not something that will support the person.
I’ve had many experiences of helping people with money and those people taking bad turns in life with that help. Therefore, I always prefer to give food, help with school materials, education, etc. than – just – money.
I was at my aunt’s wake, when I started to receive several messages of opposing positions and support on the subject, some attacks too. That’s when I positioned myself on Instagram saying that I don’t like to help people with money (and I keep my position until then).
And then… it exploded! People posted on gossip profiles, from millions of followers, but posted part of the conversation.
Many judged as they wished and I understand these judgments, because no one had access to all the conversations, right? And neither to my history with the [moça que pediu ajuda]!
But since then, I’ve been getting a lot of messages and I’m at peace because I’ve been talking to the [moça que pediu ajuda] and she herself was worried about everything that was happening.
