A brief analysis from the confirmation of the second round. Bolsonarism has established itself as a political force and should continue to polarize with the PT. In other words, it occupied the space left by the PSDB as a major opponent of petismo.

The initial results show that Bolsonaro gained space in the Senate, electing Tereza Cristina, Mourão, Magno Malta, Damares, astronaut Marcos Pontes and even Sergio Moro, who, at the end of the race, glued his image to the president. He advanced in the states and even in the Northeast.

The PSDB, in turn, is just a shadow of what it once was: it will be out of the race in São Paulo and is taking a chorus from former minister Onix Lorenzoni in Rio Grande do Sul. As Rodrigo Garcia lost to Tarcísio de Freitas, a former minister of this government, it can be said that the great tormentor of the toucans is Jair Bolsonaro.

Now it remains to be seen whether Bolsonaro will also be Lula’s executioner in the second round. The PT will have to make much more effort to reinforce the much-heralded broad front, which did not guarantee Bolsonaro’s defeat.

Ciro Gomes, as expected, leaves the election smaller than he entered. And Simone Tebet and her MDB become an important asset for an eventual second round.
