Biden referenced Mean Girls on Twitter and no one understood

Joe Biden on Monday made a reference to Mean Girls on Twitter – but no one really understood.

On October 3, the US President tweeted a picture of himself in a green convertible wearing sunglasses and writing: “Come in, everyone. We are building a better America.”

Biden spoke about the film’s iconic dialogue co-written by actress and comedian Tina Fey.

The movie’s line, “Come in, loser. Let’s go shopping,” made famous by Rachel McAdams’ character Regina George.

The date Biden tweeted was also important, as October 3 is celebrated as Mean Girls Day.

The reason is that Aaron, a character in the movie played by Jonathan Bennett, asks Lindsay Lohan’s character Cady what day it was.

To this, she replies, “It’s October 3rd.”

But in Biden’s responses and in the quote tweets, no one seemed to have caught the reference, as conservative social media users began hurling standard attacks on the president.

Senator Melissa Melendez defamed Biden in a quote tweet.

“Yes, everyone gets in their expensive, old-school and, by the way, GAS convertibles! And don’t let anyone tell you that you’re oblivious to the financial pain average Americans are feeling. I mean, we all love $6-$7 gas, right?” wrote Senator Melissa Melendez.

“Is the future fossil fuels? Okay, I’m in,” wrote another user.

Yet another commented that the president “has enough time on his hands to not only allow gas prices to rise, but then flex on all of us in a corvette stingray.” [sic].”

“You are not building anything!!! You are the worst president this country has ever had,” wrote another user.

“Who wants to tell the White House intern this thing runs on gasoline?” wrote another.

One user, however, apparently managed to get the reference and posted a meme and mocked Biden for being forgotten.

“Get in loser, we are… we are… ummm… uhh…” the meme read, introducing Biden in another convertible.
