Fatal collision is recorded with the Accident Detection feature

One of the coolest features that arrived with the iPhones 14 and 14 Pro, in addition to the Apple Watches SE (second generation), Series 8 and Ultra was the Accident Detection (Crash Detection).

Using the enhanced sensors and advanced algorithms in these devices, they can detect if you have been involved in a serious car accident, as well as call emergency services and send an alert to your emergency contacts. In short: it’s that kind of resource that no one hopes to need to use someday.

Unfortunately, however, this feature had to be enabled with a family of Lincolncapital of the state of nebraskaus United States.

In the early hours of last Sunday (3/10), 6 adults, aged between 21 and 24, were involved in an accident that occurred after the vehicle they were in collided with a tree. The five male occupants died at the scene, while a woman died hours later after being taken to hospital.

According to the local police, the accident was detected by the iPhone of one of the occupants, who automatically called 911 — after the vehicle occupants did not respond.

According to Lincoln Assistant Police Chief Michon Morrow, this was one of the most serious accidents ever seen in the region. Also according to him, the investigations that will determine what really happened will take time, since they could not find any witnesses to what happened.

Sad, no? 😢
