October reserves good openings in cinemas to put on the agenda. In addition to the long-awaited film by David O. Russell, which features a star-studded Hollywood cast, and DC Comics’ new bet to face Marvel, the month also has Halloween productions worth keeping an eye on. Check out:
Amsterdam – 6th of October
In the 1930s, nurse Valerie (Margot Robbie) and soldiers Burt (Christian Bale) and Harold (John David Washington) become best friends — and swear an oath to always protect each other. In a predicament after witnessing a murder, the trio decide to investigate the death on their own and stumble upon an infamous plot loosely inspired by inter-war American history. Directed by David O. Russell, the film also features Zoe Saldana, Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock and even Taylor Swift as part of the team.
Death, Death, Death – 6th of October
A feature that comes to increase the field of “terrir” (the terror made to provoke laughter), Death, Death, Death is the next release from A24, a favorite producer for fans of films in the genre. The story follows a group of wealthy friends who decide to play a prank during a rainy night, an idea that ends up triggering a deadly game. The cast includes names like Amandla Stenberg, from The Hate You Sow, and Rachel Sennott, from Shiva Baby.
More than friends – 6th of October
Bobby Leiber (Billy Eichner) is a gay man who is about to open a museum of LGBTQIA+ history in New York. Single for a long time, he also shares his life experiences in a podcast. After a night out at a gay club, he meets Aaron (Luke Macfarlane), the typical fit guy who goes shirtless at the club. Despite being complete opposites, the two start a friendship that gradually evolves into a surprising romance – full of good doses of humor and references to the gay universe.
Halloween Ends – October 13
The bloody trail of the masked killer Michael Myers already has a date to end. The final film in the trilogy, set four years after the events of Halloween Kills, will accompany Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), alongside her granddaughter, as she finishes writing her memoir. The protagonist’s plans to free herself from the trauma and start living, however, are interrupted again by Myers, who reappears and resumes the killing. Laurie will be forced to solve the problem—but this time, definitively. Or until someone decides to revive the profitable franchise again, of course.
black adam – October 20
Starring Dwayne Johnson, The Rock, the DC Comics movie is the big bet of the rival studio of Marvel in theaters this year. The production will show the origin of the antihero Black Adam, son of Pharaoh Ramses II who was touched by magical powers and turned into a sorcerer. In the comic books, the character is the antagonist of Shazam, a hero who has already won a solo movie and will soon star in a sequel. In addition to The Rock, the cast includes Pierce Bronsan, from 007and the darling of teen romantic comedies Noah Centíneo.
