First notebook with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is announced by XMG

Model is equipped with desktop hardware

As you might expect, the laptop carries desktop hardware, so it manages to be the world’s first notebook to come equipped with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, exclusive desktop PC SKU. Regarding GPUs, the XMG Apex 15 Max (XAP15XE22) offers NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or RTX 3060.

It is also possible to use the Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5700X or Ryzen 9 5900X CPUs in the same notebook as the company’s E22 line. There is support up to the Ryzen 9 5950X, but it is not recommended by the manufacturer, as it needs specific adjustments as it demands more energy.

New BIOS Supports Ryzen 7 5800X3D

The use of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D was made possible thanks to an adjustment in the notebook’s BIOS, which now carries version 1.07.09A01, in addition to AGESA, based on an AMD B550 motherboard that equips the model.

The XAP15XE22 is a notebook with a 15.6 inch IPS anti-glare screen, with FullHD resolution (1920×1080), with an image refresh rate of 240 Hz and a brightness of 300 nits. The notebook supports up to 64GB DDR-3200 and supports CPUs:

  • Ryzen 5 5600X
  • Ryzen 7 5700X
  • Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • Ryzen 9 5900X
  • Ryzen 9 5950X

XMG’s own tests show that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D can deliver better gaming performance, more specifically in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with graphics preset at the top, compared to the Ryzen 7 5700X and Ryzen 9 5900X. Which is nothing new, as we show you here when the CPU hit the market.

The most basic version of the XMG Apex 15 Max, which you can assemble on the Bestware website, is equipped with a Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3060, 16 GB (2×8), 500 GB SSD Samsung 980 costing 1,379 euros. Upgrading to Ryzen 7 5800X3D costs 342 euros more..
