‘I know no one will like it’

Liverpool coach spoke again about the economic disparity between the clubs, which face each other this Sunday at Anfield, in the Premier League

When Jürgen Klopp shoots to talk, nothing is able to hold it. Not even the possibility of annoy teammate Pep Guardiola on the eve of yet another confrontation between Liverpool and Manchester Cityclassic of Premier League which takes place this Sunday (16), at 12:30 pm (Brasília time), at Anfield, with live transmission by ESPN on Star+.

In a press conference with England’s main media, Klopp praised City, to whom repeatedly called the “best team in the world”. But there was also a crossed answer when the subject became investment to sign players, especially Erling Haalandbig name of the current season.

To get the number 9, City paid 60 million euros (R$ 310 million at the current price), plus bonuses to managers and the player’s family, in addition to a pompous salary that, according to the English press, is the highest in the league. Asked about the rival’s economic power, Klopp did not mince words in an answer that was left even for other clubs.

“You’re not going to like the answer. Nobody is able to compete with City in that. You have the best team in the world and put the best striker on the market. No matter how much it costs, you go and hire. I know City won’t like it [da resposta]no one will. You asked the question, but you know the answer,” the German told the journalist who asked him.

What does Liverpool do? We cannot act like them (City). It’s impossible. There are three football clubs in the world that can do whatever they want financially. It’s cool and it’s okay,” Klopp continued, indirectly citing Newcastle and PSGwhich belong to country-linked investment groups.

“I heard what the Newcastle director said: ‘There is no ceiling for this club’. He is right, absolutely right. There is no limit for Newcastle. Congratulations! But other clubs have limits”, concluded the Liverpool manager.

The financial subject has already made the two most prestigious technicians in the world exchange barbs via the press, despite the good relationship between them. In 2019, Guardiola was angered by Klopp’s statements about City living “in the world of fantasy” for spending a lot of money all the time.

“Does it bother me? Of course it does, because it’s not true that we spend £200m every window. It’s not true. It’s Liverpool, ‘You’ll never walk alone’… It’s not a small team, it’s Liverpool. So of course I don’t like that because it’s not true,” Guardiola said.
