The focus is on the World Cup, but Cristiano Ronaldo brought several off-field problems to Qatar. After resolving his issue with Manchester United, by terminating his bond with the club, the Portugal striker received a fine and suspension for dropping a fan’s cell phone in the defeat to Everton, in April, in a game for the English Championship.
The Portuguese player was fined by the Football Association of England (FA) at 50,000 pounds (about R$ 323,000 at current prices) and will have to serve two suspension games, regardless of the country in which he is playing. The punishment is not valid only for tournaments with the national team. Therefore, he is free to play normally for Portugal in the World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo was even warned by Merseyside police after dropping the cell phone of a young man with dyspraxia and autism. The striker went on to say that his reaction was to defend himself, but the feeling of frustration at Manchester United’s new defeat was visible.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned for two matches, fined £50,000 and warned of his future conduct for a breach of FA rule E3. The striker admitted his conduct after the final whistle of the Premier League game between Manchester United FC and Everton FC on Saturday 9 April 2022 was improper,” the statement read.
Free agent, after leaving Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo must define his future only after the World Cup. Newcastle, from England, and Al-Nassr, from Saudi Arabia, would be some of those interested in the Portuguese star’s football.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be on the field this Thursday, at 1pm (Brasília time), in Portugal’s World Cup debut. The opponent is the national team of Ghana.
