black adam it may have been a hit with fans, but critics were less enthusiastic about the DC Extended Universe movie, which stars Dwayne Johnson and has a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 40%. Now, out of the 12 films in the DCEU, six of them are “rotten” and six are “fresh”, and that means one more movie below 60% will leave the franchise with more “rotten” movies than “fresh”.
But the DCEU wouldn’t be the first franchise to suffer the rotten tomato, as tons of series have more movies rated “rotten”, but what’s more impressive is that some series have multiple movies with 30% scores but still remain strong in the box office. Between a long-running horror franchise, a few billion-dollar swashbuckling adventures, and a loved/hated Christmas series, no amount of rotten tomatoes can stop these franchises.
Fast and furious
Interestingly, the Fast and furious the franchise is one of the few that has its best films squeezed in the middle of the worst in the series. O Fast and furious ideal point is Fast and Furious 5-8which are all classified as “fresh”.
Fast Five and furious 7 are the highest-rated films in the series, which may be due to the fact that the fifth film was a refreshing popcorn heist movie, and the seventh installment had the touching final montage dedicated to Paul Walker. All movies focused on street racing and F9 are classified as “rotten”, and although the first films were reassessed by many as aesthetically pleasing action films, F9 unlikely to be reassessed anytime soon.
Sadly, the bad Jurassic movies outnumbered the good before the critically wounded. Dominion of Jurassic World was even released, as there are only two “fresh” movies in the franchise, which are Jurassic Park and jurassic world🇧🇷 However, there are still fun, engaging, and suspenseful moments sprinkled throughout the films.
The lost World still has the magic touch of Steven Spielberg, and Jurassic Park III The Pteranodon cage scene is as terrifying as any sequel to the original film. But the films aren’t greater than the sum of their parts, and only the 2015 soft reboot comes as close to an essential watch as the first film.
For a franchise that is so iconic, has one of the most famous movie villains of all time, and has been around for over 40 years, it’s quite a shock that Halloween has only two “fresh” films. The two new films are the 1978 original (which has an excellent 96%) and the 2018 reboot, but even that has taken a turn for the worse as its two sequels have failed to maintain the positive momentum.
The other 11 films in the series are all under 52% on the site. But the Halloween franchise has had a huge comeback in recent years, despite widespread critical disapproval. Last years halloween kills earned $131 million worldwide (via box office mojo), and halloween ends performed well too.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe
Sony is in full swing to build its own Spider man universe outside of the MCU, which is called Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and is currently comprised of three movies based on the web-slinger villains. Nonetheless, Poison🇧🇷 Venom: Let There Be Carnageand morbius, are all classified as “rotten”, and although the films about Eddie Brock are still successful, Morbius has suffered because of it. What’s worse is that the “Morbin’ Time” memes are more popular than the movie.
The franchise has yet to see its first “fresh” soundtrack, but with two upcoming films to be released, which are the one starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Kraven the Hunter and the film starring Dakota Johnson madame web, Sony could catch up quickly. However, high-profile and talented stars don’t always guarantee a great movie. After all, the Poison movies starring the beloved Tom Hardy, and morbius was led by Academy Award winner Jared Leto.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Nonetheless The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is iconic and has grossed billions of dollars each pirates film following the original, The Curse of the Black Pearl, is classified as “rotten”. It’s a case of giving in a little too much, as the movies could be so much better if they were a little tighter, especially Chest of the Dead. There is so much greatness to the sequel that it had the potential to be an equally good sequel.
However, while future plans still remain up in the air, there are reports that two new pirates movies are in development, and one has Margot Robbie in the lead role (thought looks like one isn’t happening). So there’s a chance Disney could even the score quickly, especially if Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow, which is the only way Disney could replicate the original’s success at this point.
If it weren’t for bee, the franchise based on a variety of toys would still be without a single “fresh” film. Not only is the 2018 spin-off rated “fresh,” but it also has a whopping 91% on the site. Most would think that the studio would learn from this and continue to make more character-based personal stories with toned down but still exciting action, but Paramount quickly returned to the development of over-the-top CGI fests.
The next film in the series, Transformers: Rise of the Beastsis shaping up to be another huge blockbuster, but it may have learned something from bee🇧🇷 Either way, it’s still one of the most exciting action movies of 2023.
Few other franchises are in such a miserable state as home alone franchise as it falls further into obscurity with each consecutive release, and the films’ Rotten Tomatoes scores accurately reflect that. home alone 3 tried to turn the series into a spy thriller, which resulted in discarding even the children’s audience. Then followed a series of direct-to-DVD movies, and the most recent, home sweet home alonewhich has been dubbed the return to form, has the lowest grade of the lot at 16%.
Interestingly, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York there’s a “rotten” score too, which is surprising since many think it’s as good as the original, and some even think it’s better than the first home alone🇧🇷 However, it may have been that, at the time, he simply repeated the original formula beat for beat and just as quickly after home alone initial release.
Of all the franchises that have more “rotten” than “fresh” scores, It saw series can be seen as the worst or the most impressive. The torture porn series doesn’t contain a single “fresh” movie, not even the original, which is actually a serviceable thriller with a great twist. All nine films have a score of 49% or less, so none of them are even close to being new.
However, despite this unprecedented failure, the franchise has grossed over a billion dollars (via box office mojo), and this is all the more impressive given that they cost so little to produce. So while some might consider a streak of nine consecutive movies being labeled “rotten” a flop, the studio certainly sees it as an achievement.”
like the It saw franchise, resident Evil there isn’t a single new movie, but that fact hasn’t stopped the series from making handfuls of money. The original horror film series, based on the video game franchise of the same name, is made up of six films, with the highest scoring of all of them being the original at 35%. Even the 2021 reboot couldn’t top it.
If the studio simply adapted the video games one by one, it would have an epic, “fresh” series of films on its hands. The series could easily be an anthology, with each release following a different video game, and they don’t have to be in order either. resident Evil 4 would make an amazing standalone horror film set in villages and castles.
O underworld the franchise has such a cult following that Sony Pictures has released five hit films in the series, but they haven’t exactly won over critics. The gothic films, which follow a centuries-old war between vampires and Lycans, score worse on Rotten Tomatoes with each consecutive release.
Ironically, one underworld and resident Evil crossing was considered. According to Coming soon.net🇧🇷 underworld director Len Wiseman mentioned, “I, as a fan, would love to see it, but it would have to make sense in both worlds.” However, two wrongs don’t make a right, and it likely would have been another “rotten” entry for both franchises.
